The Drummer Boy of Shiloh

   In the "Drummer Boy of Shiloh 14 year old Joby has trouble finding himself, he hasn't found his purpose. Joby is stuck in a whole, but he has to find his way through before he can get out. Joby is lost. Although his mentor the general will soon lead him down the right path by being a father figure when he needs it the most. In which he guides him through the rough times and gives him advice on his troubles.

     In the beginning of the story Joby feels unshielded. He is unsure of what's happening outside of his box! Joby is insecure about his life. He is lonely and doesn't feel like he belongs. He doesn't feel welcome in the army I mean why wouldn't he, all the young boys most likely look tough and ready to fight unlike joby, but im  sure they feel the same way joby does on the inside. Joby thinks he is unimportant and is afraid he wont fit in.

     Towards the middle of the story Joby is still lost in the heat of it all. The general and Joby are working towards finding himself. Apart from the general being a father figure and mentor to joby, the general also acts as a mother figure. In which the general helps Joby over come his fear of not fitting in. He welcomes Joby into the army, and takes care of Joby as if he were his own child.

    Towards the falling action part of the story Joby has come to differ who he is and who he is not. He has realized what was yet to come, however; he did not do it his own. The general had a big roll in Joby's success in finding himself. In addition Joby knew what he was representing who he was, and his purpose, the Drummer Boy of Shiloh.

     In the end I am glad Joby has found himself. He has grown taller than a mountain and higher than a bird can fly. Joby over came his feelings of insecurities and fright. Joby is the drummer boy of shiloh.
